A Rummage Sale to Get Me By

As of late I have been having some thrifting withdrawal as the flea markets in my area are officially done for the year.  The other day I was quite pleased to find some rummage sales going on this weekend and therefore got up quite early to check them out before heading into my shift at work.  Therefore, tonight I am a sleepy blogger.   I found some really awesome goodies though that I can't wait to share...and because it was all at rummage sale prices, the grand total for all was less than $20. 

 

 

Otay!  The back fabric is a set of pleated curtains that I have not made plans for yet, but I did really like.  In terms of kitchenware, I found the sifter, Revere Ware 8 inch skillet, four red napkins pictured in sifter, spaghetti fork, and Pyrex Bradford House platter (total of three platters purchased). 

 



 

 

In the skillet is an old ornament marked Made in West Germany.  The old school ice pack was a BIG find for me.  I know this seems quite odd, but I really wanted to find one.  I had even come close to purchasing one for $10 before but chickened out...then decided to go back and get it to find the price increased to $15 (Too high for me).  Since then I have really been hoping to find another one.  The best part about this one?  It was only fifty cents AND was new in box AND was a cute blue pattern.  Score :) 

All the books were only a quarter each.  Although most were children's books, they all range in years from 1903 to 1971.  One of the non-kiddie books was the Pennsylvania one, I absolutely love the illustrations in it. 

 

 

 

Another odd find was this Smurfs fabric.  It's quite large measuring 34x44 inches.  I have absolutely no clue what I'm going to do with it.  But...it is very cute...and it was only a quarter.  

 

 

Also purchased but not pictured was a fabulous bright yellow wooden folding chair for four dollars (which I plan to turn into a fabulous bright red wooden folding chair) and a rather old pearl necklace I picked up for a quarter.

Fall Finds

Hello all and I hope you all are having a wonderful autumn.  It's my favorite season and thankfully it treated me well with the vintage finds.  Taaadaa!  First up, I found the Old Town Blue gravy boat, Bromwells, flour sifter, and little tin Jello thingys.  I found the Corning promotional mug from 1974 at Goodwill. The white apple is some type of sugar dish and also pictured is a woodland shaker. The little cook books all cost fifty cents each at an antique store.  At the same store, I found the General Electric clock (which works!) for $5.    The two Pyrex plates as well as fridgie lid all came from Goodwill for less than $1 each.  The pumpkin was an accidental find.  Although not vintage, I didn't purchase it nor did I intend to grow it...it just kinda sprouted up from where I tossed my old pumpkin last year.  I was excited to find it :)

 

 

 

 

On to the utensils!  The three prong fork and spatula were a dollar each at the "Clock" store.  The pizza cutter came from Goodwill and my dad picked up the teal handled "Batter Beater" was something my dad picked up for me at a yard sale for ten cents!

 

 

Now on to the mystery box that I found sitting happily on the shelf at the "clock" store.  Whatever could it be?



 

 

I open it up, and to my delight, mint condition Pyrex.  The FIRST mint condition new in box Pyrex I have found to date.  

 

 

The downside...it was square flowers.  Not exactly my favorite.  But since boxed Pyrex is a rareness around here, even at the $25 price tag, I bit.  I don't regret it a bit.  

 

 

Furthermore, I also have made some progress on my Hoosier cabinet.  The flour bin is now firmly secured and both shelves in the top section are in.  Next up, I just have to secure the trim, put the back on, stain everything, and put the doors on then the top half is done.  The bottom half, well it's kinda just a hollow box still.  I've got to work on it some more.

Pyrex Teamwork

It was a rather exciting weekend in the thrifting world.  Although I worked Saturday, I sent my dad on a mission to the flea market with some monies and he came back with some awesome goodies!  He found the butterprint mixing bowl, casserole, and cinderella bowl for $3 or $4 each.  I was especially tickled with the casserole, this is the largest butterprint one I have so far.  He also scored big time on the yellow hostess dish with lid for only $4.  It's even in pretty awesome shape except the lid (one very minor chip and a few scratches on the top.  He also nabbed the white covered casserole. 

 

 

Apologies on this next photo, try as I might, I cannot get it to upload correctly.  Dad also found me the three Early American mixing bowls for $12 and the old orchard casserole.  Items which failed to be pictured below included an earlier Pyrex meat platter and pink flamingo dinner plate. In addition to the Around the USA in 1000 Pictures book (1955), there was also a poetry book (1926) and a copy of Thoreau (1961).  

Today I finally had a day off and was able to get some accidental shopping in.  See...I went to a car show...and came home with the two Daisy mixing bowls.  Kind of odd, right?  I certainly won't argue since I got them both for $8.  Also, at goodwill I found my first piece of English Pyrex (with lid!).  I was so tickled, I almost squealed...right in the middle of the store.  After stopping in at a few antique stores, I emerged with the see and store canister for fifty cents as well as the Shopping Reminder/Trading Stamp Saver wall hanger.  Although I paid more for this particular item than I normally would have liked, I had been thinking about it pretty consistently since my last visit to this store.  So for the sake of my sanity, I shelled out the cash.

The Massive Catch Up Post

 My my my, it has been too long.  Do not fret though, even with my hiatus in the blog world, I have found time between my two jobs and college to thrift my little heart out.  In fact you could say with the additional stress, my thrifting has increased...dramatically. In addition to that my father has been picking stuff up as well. This photo demonstrates approximately two thirds of my finds from the past month and a half.  I've been hitting yard sales, thrift stores, second hand shops, antique stores, and flea markets...it was so worth it. 

 

 

Don't worry, there are close ups.  First up, I got the Desert Dawn bread pan for a dollar at a new little secondhand shop in my area.  I also found the Town and Country refrigerator dish set, one yellow fridgie, and three Butterfly Gold fridgies there.  The best part, ALL of them were $24...I will be returning to this shop.  Under the BFG fridgies are two rough cookbooks that the one flea market vendor gave me.  I also purchased the measuring cup there.  I finally found a Pyrex Square baker.  Finally for this picture was the two casseroles, one is a Verde and the other is Pink Daisy (for a dollar!).  

 

 

Next, we have a Snowflake Blue fridgie that I found at the flea market.  This is also where I found the wood trivet and blue fridgie.  At Goodwill I found the two Books, pink band tea cup, small wood see and store and blue rimmed saucer.  

 

 

More :)  I found the three utensils at the flea market as well as the BFG casserole hiding on the bottom.  The Amish Blue Butterprint casserole was found at a yard sale for - dun, dun, dun - $1.  Last for this photo was the kiddie bundt pan by Glass Bake I found at Goodwill.  

 

 

The set of Brown Homestead casseroles came from the flea market for $15.  Also from the same vendor yet a different weekend was the red hostess for $6.  All the Halloween cutouts throughout the photos came from an antique store for 25 cents each.  

 



 

 

And more goodies from the flea market.  The sifter ($8), red fridgie ($2), red primary mixing bowl ($4), pink gooseberry bowl ($3), and antique jar lifter ($4) all made it's way home from there (Thanks Dad!).  The straw jar and salt/pepper shaker came from Goodwill.  The federal eagle bowl was a dollar fifty at a yard sale.

I found some new little cookbooks that have become some of my favorites.  These are my "loves" of my large booklet collection.  

Ohhh, and this chair minus actual sitting component was a dollar.  I see potential here. 

 

 

Now the Cinderella story of the post/ deal of the day/ favorite find of all time!  Over a year ago I had picked up this set of mixing bowls at an antique mall for $8.  The middle bowl however was severely dishwasher damaged.

My dad was absolutely fantastic and found these two bowls for me at a yard sale.  Both are in excellent condition and the best part?  They were both ONE DOLLAR...he is a lucky fella.

As you can see...the four quart was needed to complete my set and the smaller of the two perfectly replaces the one that was dishwasher damaged. 

Voila!  Four piece Amish Blue Butterprint mixing bowl set for $9.  I just about fainted.

Three Goodwills and a Salvation Army Later...

Well today was thankfully a day off from both of my jobs.  What better way to spend it then by thrifting my lil heart out?  I suppose I could have folded laundry like a good girl...but the prospect of finding Pyrex was far more tempting.  As the title of this post suggests, I was able to hit 4 stores...and I scored!

Dream come true, I found 3 lime Pyrex 080 individual casseroles at Goodwill.  I scooped them up so quick I didn't even think about the fact i already had a large quantity of Pyrex in my hands...luckily my dad had went to grab a cart and came to my rescue, Da-Da-Dah!  I also found 2 spring blossom shakers (each at different stores) and my dad found an old towne blue shaker.  He also found the 1 cup mini coffee pot.  Next up are the two Pyrex divided casserole dishes I found, one a promotional Constellation and the other in Butterfly Gold. 

And yet there is more.  I found a red band Corning restaurant ware cup as well as a wood pattern Pyrex See-n-Store.  I'm hoping to paint the see and store though, I just can't bring myself to be a fan of the faux wood look.  Also, I found 2 Fire King(?) jadeite saucers and an older jar lifter with green wood handles.  The two homeless lids will hopefully find a casserole to match up with one day, especially that space saver one.  My-oh-my how I wish the casserole was found under this lid.  Last for this photo is a souvenir plate from the Corning Headquarters in NY. 

Finally, I also picked up this double drawer filing cabinet/card catalog thingy for $4 at Goodwill.  I liked it because it's actually in decent shape and the drawers still pull easily.  I will have to find a place for it.

Accumulated Finds

Well, it tis time to play catch up!  Lately I've done quite a few small thrifting spurts that I have neglected to blog since I've been pretty occupied with work.  Needless to say, I've found some pretty cool stuff. 

First off we have a Revere Ware Skillet (with lid) from Goodwill.  I also found two more of the Corning Holly Days cups.  Every time I find these I can't help but picture them filled with hot cocoa.  In terms of Pyrex there is a four cup measuring cup as well as some Flamingo dinnerware (1 luncheon, 1 bread, 4 saucers, and 1 berry bowl).  Finally, I was absolutely thrilled to find this older metal dust pan with strawberries.  It's adorable in my opinion and I've been searching for one for a while. 

Nexxxtttt! We have a Pyrex juice jug with lemons I found at Goodwill for $2 as well as a glass with the butterfly gold pattern on it.  I picked up the Butterfly Gold 2 casserole at the flea market for $5, although it's not a favorite pattern, it is in fantastic condition.  Last pictured is some random Pyrex dinnerware.  

There is even more!  I was actually surprised with how much I had accumulated.  I found two more of the jar type thingys I'm trying to pick up and a piece of Pyrex flameware.  I was absolutely tickled to find these older Pyrex beakers at Goodwill for 79 cents each anddd half off.  Score!  I picked up the six Christmas tree molds for a dollar as well as some random lids (that I may or may not have something to fit).  Last, I found more dinnerware with a lime luncheon plate, grey saucer and leaves small plate.  

This next thing is another of the ones I was really tickled to bring home.  I picked up this K&M popcorn popper at the flea market for 5 dollars.  I think it's absolutely adorable - kinda space ship like huh?  The best part was that it even had the instruction booklet and measuring cup...and further more, it had the little cardboard ring still on it's fabric wrapped cord.  

Last but not least are some of the cook books I've picked up.  I was most excited about the cookbook/instruction book for the Sunbeam Mixmaster since it was the exact one which would have came with the one I found here: http://yesterway.blogspot.com/2012/05/haunting-of-strawberry-towel.html

The other booklet I was most intrigued by was the 2000 Useful Facts About Food  published in 1941.

More Brilliant Butterprint!

My dad did it again.  Last weekend while I was hard at work, he headed off towards one of the larger flea markets in my area...and he found the good stuff. 

Also sneaking into these photos were the goodies he had picked up the previous weekend.  First up is a Pyrex Daisy casserole he found in awesome condition for only four dollars!  This happened to be my first piece of Daisy so I was thrilled.  He also found the divided casserole with orange flowers (that I have fallen in love with) for only two dollars.  The blue primary fridgie was an absolute steal for only a dollar as was the earlier dry measuring cup for only two dollars!  I never thought I would find one of these measuring cups so I was incredibly excited.  The Snowflake blue butter dish was a little more expensive at six dollars, but because of the high quantity of camps in my area, they are harder to come by.

Finally up is perhaps my favorite of the things he brought home.  This Pyrex platter. It is 12.5 inches in diameter and from my research is a customized restaurant ware pattern.  I was only able to find one other online.  I'm tickled to have it because I think it will go wonderfully with Amish Blue Butterprint.  

Next up we have two of the clear mixing bowls with double spouts which I have never seen before.  Also there are a few small cook books my favorite flea market vendor sent home for me free of charge.  Last, is a sandwich maker thing-a-ma-bob. 

And back to the Pyrex!  Yes, I now have another Amish Blue Butterprint Cinderella Mixing bowl set.  It was in such good condition and an excellent price I am glad he didn't pass it up.  Also, he found a 444 for, well, $4 (also in good condition).
